Choosing a Tent

Best Tent for your family

Knowing what to look for in a tent is a great place to start.

Camping tips for your family

Camping

Camping. The quintessential family getaway. Campfires, marshmallows, fresh air. Aaaaaahh. The best part - it can be yours.

Don't think I am all pie in the sky here. We have actually tent camped back-to-back weekends for a month while 7 months pregnant and three kids in tow.

We have set up and taken down in the rain, done mammoth amounts of laundry, been bit by wasps, and had babies cry in the night.

So why do we keep doing it over and over again? Because it is all worth it. And we have also learned quite a few secrets about how to make it a lot easier.

You will find purists in the camping world that will tell you 'if you can drive to your campsite, it's not camping.' Or, 'if you're in an RV, that's not camping'. (Admission of guilt - that was me for many, many years while my loving husband encouraged me to make the switch).

We're not here to judge. Our whole purpose here is to get you out traveling with your kids. So, if you can borrow your neighbour's pop-up trailer - do it. If your Dad has that old tent in his basement he doesn't use anymore - grab it. Scared to death of bears? Definitely drive to your campsite. House full of teenagers who need to burn a LOT of energy - by all means, backpack for 2 hours into the middle of nowhere. (Once you know what you are doing, of course.)

Just get camping.
